What is Club Championship day?

Finally, you get the chance to show how fast you’ve become over the season, and if you’re lucky, maybe win a medal!

Swimmers compete in their age group for each stroke that they have qualified for. There are no novice events at Championships. This is our final swimming event of the season, generally scheduled on the last Sunday before end of school Term One.

Events :

  • IM is swum in the following age groups – 10 & Under, 11 to 13 and 14 & Over.
  • All other strokes are swum in the following age groups – 7 & under, 8yrs, 9yrs, 10yrs, 11yrs, 12yrs, 13yrs and 14 & over
  • Swimmers 8 years and under swim 25m races for all strokes
  • Swimmers 9 years old swim 50m for freestyle and 25m for the remaining three strokes
  • Swimmers 10 years and over swim 50m for all strokes

More information about qualifying for the Championships is set out in the Rulebook of Nundah State School Amateur Swimming Club. Or come and have a chat with our Race Secretary at Friday club night.

Club Championships FAQ

How do I qualify?

Qualification is based on season attendance, and recording a time swimming the minimum distance of the stroke

Attendance: Swimmers need to record a time at a minimum 50% (half) of club nights, in any event.  Your name on the Novice race list is considered a recorded time.

Members who join at the beginning of term 1, need to record a time at a minimum 50% of club nights in Term 1 eg 8 club nights in T1, a min 4  swim nights with recorded time.

Distance: The Championship Events are the only distances avaialble.

50m events, require a mininimum of 1 recorded time at that distance and stroke.

100m events require a minimum of 3 x recorded times at that distance and stroke.

How old is a swimmer?  The  swimmer’s age group is the age they turn this calendar year. It is NOT their age during the.

Examples :

I am 8 years old and swimming 50m at club nights, can I swim 50m? No, 8yo event is 25m.  By swimming 25m or greater they have qualified.

I am 9 years old this season, turning 10 later this year, what age group do I swim? This child is in the 10 year age group. They must obtain at least one recorded time in a 50m event in the stroke to qualify.

I swum Freestyle most weeks, and another stroke only once at the right distance. Will I qualify for both strokes? Yes, if the swimmer has swum the minimum amount of club nights for freestyle and would like to qualify for backstroke, they need only to have one time recorded at the correct distance for backstroke to qualify.
