Nundah Swimming prides itself on our three core values, being Enjoyment, Participation and Success. These values incorporate everything Nundah Swimming as an organisation stands for encompassing our philosophy.
It’s not just about the end result, but the journey taken to achieve individual and team success.
It is human nature for any person to want to enjoy whatever they are doing, and here at Nundah Swimming we would like to think we provide an environment that is enjoyable and rewarding for any person who passes through our gates.
We would like to consider Participation as second nature here at Nundah and pride ourselves on the incredible community spirit and sense of belonging that resonates throughout the Nundah Swimming Club. Enjoyment goes hand in hand with getting involved and with water activities and exercises that encourage sportsmanship and participation we have never been more committed to ensuring every child has the same enjoyable experience.
For Nundah Swimming, success is not just about the number of trophies or medals one has on the mantel, nor is it measured by whether you win a race or beat a record. Success at Nundah comes in so many different forms. From successfully completing and competing in your first Novice race, to qualifying for the first time for Championships, or not being disqualified in Butterfly or Breastroke. That’s success and at Nundah and it means just as much as a trophy. Supporting, encouraging and providing our athletes with the best aquatic education so they can achieve their own success, no matter how great or small it may be.
All of this ties into our slogan of “Experience the Difference” inviting you to come and witness first hand for yourself what makes Nundah swimming different from the rest.
Experience the Difference
All athletes should recognise that being a member of the Nundah Swimming community carries with it responsibilities and rewards and they shall not only embrace those responsibilities, but also conduct themselves both in and out of the pool in a way that exhibits respect for others and themselves.
SPECIFIC PRINCIPLES
- Accept accountability for all behaviour and its outcomes
- Exercise self-control
- Be willing to be fair with others in and out of the pool
- Take pride in themselves and their accomplishments, but never at the expense of demeaning another person or group
- Respect the efforts of others
- Respect coaches, committee members and all parents
- Swim with spirit not just to the rules
- Strive to make the community better through support and contribution as a member and a citizen
All parents and guardians shall pledge to provide positive support, care and encouragement for their child participating in the activities of Nundah Swimming by following this code of conduct.
SPECIFIC PRINCIPLES
- Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all swimmers, coaches and officials when at the pool for any occasion
- Place the emotional and physical well-being of their child and other athletes ahead of a personal desire to win
- Support efforts to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment
- Support coaches, committee members and other officials working with their child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all
- Support a swimming environment that is free of drugs, tobacco and alcohol and refrain from their use at all swimming club events
- Do their very best to make swimming fun
- Encourage their child to treat other athletes, coaches, spectators, officials and others with respect regardless of race, sex, creed or ability
- Promise to help their child enjoy the Nundah swimming experience in whatever way possible, such as being a respectable spectator or assisting where necessary
The primary function of a coach is to facilitate the swimming environment and educate athletes through participation and competition. Each athlete shall be treated equally and coaches shall be aware that they have a tremendous influence on the well-being of the athletes and thus shall never place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest ideals of character.
SPECIFIC PRINCIPLES
- Uphold the honor and dignity of the profession
- Set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct in all personal contact with athletes, sports officials, parents, guardians, spectators and the public
- Take an active role in the prevention of drug, alcohol and tobacco use
- Avoid the use of drug, alcohol and tobacco use when in contact with athletes
- Be competent in all areas of coaching and have all qualifications and industry requirements up to date at all times
- Exert an influence to enhance unsportsmanship conduct by spectators or others, or to indulge in conduct which would incite athletes or spectators against the officials
- Respect and support the decision of the referee and officials
- Meet and exchange cordial greetings with the opposing coache/s to set the correct tone before and after a carnival
